The On-load tap changer is a kind of regulating mode in which the transformer can change the voltage by changing the tap position when it is running with load. The on load tap changer is usually used on the HV winding.
The on-load tap-changer has two basic functions:
First, "choose" a tap in case of open circuit;
Second, the power is "switched" or "changed" to the selected tap without interrupting the passing current.
The switching of the load current from the on-load tap to the pre-selected tap can be done through resistance transition or reactor
The transition is completed, which is divided into resistive on-load tap-changer and reactive on-load tap-changer. On-load tap-changers can also be divided into vacuum on-load tap-changers and oil-immersed on-load tap-changers.
